The Beatles did it, specifically Abbey Road. Matt had always wanted to play drums since he was a kid,
but the seminal Beatles album is what pushed him to air drum himself to sleep every night. Finally convincing his parents to
let him take drum lessons, he had a relatively late start at the age of 16, but took to the instrument insatiably. One style
led to the next- rock, jazz, blues, fusion, reggae, country- they all bled new sounds and ideas, and he couldn’t stop listening to
and finding new music.
Eventually Matt joined his first band “Solid Blues” in 1998 with his high school friends and never looked back. They played anywhere they could and in most places were way too young to be inside. Through the years Matt has been in
a myriad of different bands as diverse as the music he listens to and currently finds a home in Denny’s Revenge.
“It’s one of
the most amazing things to play music, especially with the guys I play with now. They’re not just my friends but my musical
home; it’s where I belong. I get inspired to be a better musician every night, and I’m always looking forward to where
they take me next.”
Matt’s main influences are Carter Beauford of the Dave Matthews Band, ?uestlove of The Roots, and studio legend
Vinnie Colaiuta, but he is always looking for new avenues and artists for inspiration.
